NEWSWEEK Magazine, in its May 28, 2007 issue, again named Lincoln Park High School to a list of the top 100 high schools in the U.S. NEWSWEEK's list of America's best high schools - Lincoln Park is rated # 46 - evaluted a record number of 1,258 schools.
The Challenge Index, devised by Newsweek's Jay Matthers, used each school's rate of participation in college-level tests like AP to indicate which schools were the most demanding and supportive of all students. The index seeks to measure which schools were giving their students the most value.
The ranking is comprised of the number of Advanced Placement (AP), Intl, Baccalaureate (IB) and/or Cambridge tests taken by all students at a school in 2007 divided by the number of graduating seniors. All of the schools on the list have an index of at least 1.000, and are placed in the top 5 percent of public schools measured this way.
