RecyclingMost of the 43rd Ward is now included in the Blue Cart program for recycling. Residents with City of Chicago garbage pick-up are encouraged to use the blue carts for paper, cans, glass and plastic. Residents who have city garbage pick-up living south of North Avenue will receive blue carts in the future.
Residents in larger buildings who do not have city pick-up and those who live south of North Avenue are encouraged to bring recyclables to one of the city's drop-off locations listed below.

- The City's first permanent Household Chemical and Computer Recycling Center is open at 1150 N North Branch on Goose Island. This facility will accept computers for recycling and will allow for the safe disposal or recycling of household hazardous chemicals.
The facility accepts the following materials for recycling or safe disposal: antifreeze, used motor oil, old gasoline, oil-based paints, paint thinners, aerosol paints, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, lawn chemicals, solvents, drain cleaners, cleaning products, pool chemicals, hobby chemicals, mercury, fluorescent lamps and bulbs, computers and cell phones.
These materials are accepted during the facility's regular hours of operation: Tuesdays from 7:00 AM to noon; Thursdays from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM and the first Saturday of every month from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Many of the electronics will be taken apart and recycled, while newer computers will be refurbished through the program and made available to local schools, churches, non-profits groups and low-income families.
- Residents can bring paper, plastics and glass to the 1150 N North Branch facility or to the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, 2430 N Cannon Drive. The North Branch Center also accepts the same full range of materials as any recycling center and all recyclables can be tossed in together.
Alderman Daley's office accepts used batteries and cell phones for recycling.
